CHILDREN’S PROGRAM COORDINATOR
COLFAX COMMUNITY NETWORK

Hours: 20-25 hours/week – After School Program (ASP); 1pm – 6pm / M-F

35-40 hours/week – Summer Camp; 8am – 4pm / M-F
Assist with program on Aurora Public Schools breaks throughout school year and summer camp

Term of contract: August 9th, 2010 – May 20th, 2011 (ASP)
May 30th – July 25th, 2011 (Summer Camp)

Pay: Beginning at $10/hour (depending on experience and education)

The primary duty of the CHILDREN’S PROGRAM COORDINATOR is to assist the Executive Director (ED) and ASP staff in After School Program (ASP) and Summer Camp.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

After School Program (ASP)
General:
•Develop a supportive and caring relationship with children
•Supervise children and set limits to help with discipline
•Help develop and follow consistent ASP discipline guidelines
•Guide and direct volunteers and other ASP staff
•Assume leadership of the ASP if the ED is not available
•Participate in trainings and meetings that improve CCN children’s programming
•Attend weekly staff meetings
•Track and process funds and resources related to ASP (e.g., fill out fund request forms; process receipts after purchases)
•Help the ED create and update policies as related to children’s programming
•Distribute information and materials to parents, schools and community members
•Communicate with building manager, church staff and other organizations for the use of building space and cleanliness, etc.

Activities:
•In collaboration with the ED and other ASP staff, plan fun and educational activities (i.e., activities that support learning, creative and artistic activities, field trips, etc.)
•Support children with academics (e.g., help with homework)
•Engage children in creative and fun activities; play with children
•Develop and maintain relationships with outside organizations and individuals who provide programming for children off-site
•Plan and participate in the celebration of children’s birthdays and holidays

Transportation:
•Drive a CCN vehicle (15 passenger van and/or minivan) to transport children to and from school, ASP and field trips
•Help with vehicle maintenance (e.g., tracking oil changes, servicing, mirror/window replacement as needed)
•Monitor gas usage and fill tank when needed

Meals:
•Participate in planning and preparation of 2 daily snacks for children
•Help place and pick up orders from Food Bank of the Rockies; help organize ASP and Summer Camp snack area of CCN’s food bank

Families:
•Communicate with families and schools about children as necessary

Summer Camp
In addition to the above responsibilities, duties for the Summer Camp also include:
•Collaborate with grant coordinators (when available) on curriculum development
•Set up and break down Summer Camp room and kitchen supplies
•Oversee the preparation and distribution of two meals and one snack for children
•Further help plan and execute outside activities and excursions for youth (e.g., swimming lessons, hiking, activities with the Boy Scouts, etc.)
•Create, implement and track summer camp documents
•Manage funds for activities and meals
•Plan, book and participate in the end-of-summer-camp trip for small group of children and chaperones

Family Night
•Assist with monthly community meals for individuals and families
•Transport individuals and families to and from CCN for Family Night
•Aid in the set up and break down of the community meal, raffle and resource distribution
•Help in the distribution of resource lists and other information
•Collaborate in the coordination of speakers and other organizations who would like to attend Family Night
•Help plan and execute games/activities for children who attend

Food Bank
•Assist in serving CCN clients at the food bank (M, W, F / 12pm – 2pm) when available
•Place orders and make runs to Food Bank of the Rockies
•Help clean and organize the food bank

Other CCN Responsibilities
•Answer phones and take messages while in the office
•Assist walk-in clients with information and resources (e.g., bus tokens)
•Clean and organize CCN rooms
•Assist with the Holiday Party
•Participate in fundraising events

Experience:

The ideal candidate must…

•qualify as a tutor or a paraprofessional through Aurora Public Schools;
•have some college experience; a two-year degree in education or related field preferred;
•pass a name/fingerprint background check;
•have a driving record in compliance with CCN’s insurance policy;
•hold a Colorado Driver’s License.

The ideal candidate will also have…
•extensive hands-on experience working with youth, especially those between the ages of 5 and 12;
•a background in education and/or child development;
•an understanding of how social, environmental, economic, etc. issues effect the lives of children, families and extended communities;
•a sense of humor and an ease in working with others;
•and will approach everyone with dignity, kindness and respect.
