Special Thanks to an Inspiring Donor

Colfax Community Network would like to shine a spotlight on a sensational donor. An exceptional thank you goes out to Madison Kenshalo for her creative birthday wish. Instead of receiving gifts for her birthday, Madison encouraged her friends and family to give new and used pairs of shoes so that she could donate them to Colfax Community Network! Madison, your generosity will not soon be forgotten; thank you for all those who got new shoes because of your charity.

Summer is Coming!

Scheduling our various services and programs typically revolve around our kids' school schedules, and as such, we would like to remind parents that our After School Program will be ending for the summer Friday, May 18th. But, just as we (temporarily) close one door, we open another; our Summer Program is set to begin May 29th! Using the model from years past, there will be three 2-week sessions, from 9:30-3:30 daily, centered on an academic theme that will carry through to the end of July. As always, there will be a week hiatus between two week sessions so we can regroup and organize the subsequent session(s). To complete the summer, we are planning on returning our Summer Camping trip that was a rousing success in 2011! For scheduling information and registration, or if you would like to sign up and volunteer for our Summer Programs, you can contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to make these arrangements. CCN Needs You!

One of our vans is in serious need of replacement!  If any readers know of a large, used 15 passenger van for sale, please contact us at our office (303-360-9175); once our summer programs begin, our 15-passenger vans are our only means of transportation (to zoos, parks, swimming pools, museums, etc.) and will be seeing increased usage during these sessions.

We are running out of food!! Our biggest day-to-day need currently lies with our Food Bank.  You at home can help us tremendously by donating non-perishable food and any unused soap, toothpaste, shampoo, body/hand lotion, and toilet paper.  Because kids and parents spend more time at home during the summer, the demand will continue to grow as school lets out and trump our supply, so any contributions to our stock are greatly appreciated.  Again, please call us at our office or email us to let us know when you will be dropping items off so we can arrange someone to meet you.

The Continued Rise of CCN’s Community Night

In other news, our Community Nights continue to break records, as we had 111 total patrons show up last Thursday, the 26th!  Hosted by Calvary Presbyterian Church, about 70 adults and 40 kids participated in our family night gathering that featured food and music for the kids.  Please join us at the end of this month, Thursday, May 24th, so you can experience the Community Night, hosted by St. Barnabas, and help us keep the trend of record-breaking alive!  If you would like to host a Community Night in the near future, we currently have a need host groups for two more months; please contact  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. CCN’s Last Leg!

We are a couple weeks away from Kaiser Permanente’s annual Colfax Marathon and we at CCN are gathering last minute donations to fund our kids for the Bellco 5K race-relay.  Remember, kid’s fees are just $20 and donating is as easy as logging onto the official race website or accessing this link: https://cui.active.com/event-reg/select-race?e=1621704&mailingId=&recipientId. While you’re there, don’t forget to designate Colfax Community Network as your charity partner (you can donate to us directly underneath the ‘Charity Partners’ tab), and take a few moments to browse through the other local-area non-profits who are allied with this great cause.  Our relay team and after-school kids have been busy training thanks to the beautiful spring weather we’re experiencing; we hope to see you all there Saturday and Sunday, May 19th and 20th!

Thank you!!

Colfax Community Network would like to take a few moments to send special thanks to all the people and organizations that helped us achieve our mission last month.  Responding almost immediately to our depleted Food Bank, the Aurora Renaissance Hotel donated a wealth of hygiene products to help us meet the tri-weekly demand of our steadfast patrons.  Platt Nursing College was especially helpful in assisting our Outreach, Parent/Child Education, and After-School Programs in April; extra help is always welcome with our programs and their support ensured smooth operations and happy Colfax clients.  Steve and Terry of the Dread Rock group “Desciples” were a hit at last Thursday’s Community Night, as kids enjoyed their music while playing games and eating the delicious food provided by Calvary, thanks again!
