A Warmer Winter with YOU!

You are the key to a warmer winter for homeless children and families!

GivingFirst

CCN knows... you get a lot of emails from a lot of different people asking you to support their cause. This coming week in particular you may see a lot of emails pertaining to Colorado Gives Day on December 4th! A lot of you supported CCN last year on Colorado Gives Day and for that we THANK YOU! This year we wanted to try to break through all the noise and make things interesting! How would you like to DOUBLE your impact this time around? Well your donation to CCN on Colorado Gives Day will be matched dollar for dollar by our generous Board of Directors and our very own Executive Director. That's right!! The Director has challenged the Board to match her donation of $500 in order to match your donations up to $2500!

Your generous donation will help us ensure a warmer winter for our clients. Your December donations help provide emergency shelter, warm clothes, hot meals, and Holiday cheer to children and families all winter long!

Remember: all donations made this coming Tuesday, December 4th will be matched up to $2500 with a total fundraising goal of $5000! Help us meet our goal... Just search for Colfax Community Network in the search bar on the Givingfirst.org webpage: https://www.givingfirst.org/

November Highlights!

Warm Chili in Mild October
For those who couldn’t attend, the Joy Wine & Spirits Chili Cook-Off was a resounding success!  Hosted on a beautifully warm October afternoon in the parking lot behind the store, the event drew in hundreds of people who enjoyed a variety of chilies from both Denver-area restaurants and amateurs.  Fine wines, whiskeys, and beer were also on-hand, as revelers tasted and voted on their favorite chilies while enjoying the company of the friendly Capitol Hill community.  Of course, a portion of the proceeds from the admission tickets benefitted the CCN, providing much needed funds to put into our new bus and food bank.

Postmodern Gift

Last month, Postmodern, a Denver-based production company specializing in sound, picture editorial, and media creation, celebrated its 20th anniversary by hosting a 1920’s-style silent auction.  Auctioning off items such as Core Power Yoga lessons and restaurant gift certificates, the event raised over $2,000 dollars for Colfax Community Network.  Postmodern decided to gift a portion of the profits earned that evening to CCN to help us meet the increasing quantity of patrons to our food and clothing bank, as well as assist in our overall budget as we head into Christmas and the New Year.  A special thank you goes to Postmodern and everyone who was able to attend the party and help us out by bidding in the auction.

CCN and You

We have been seeing high numbers of people over the last few months in our food bank and need your help as we enter the final months of the year!  Last month alone, roughly 150 families totaling more than 500 people came in for food, warm clothing, and hygiene products.  Currently, because our supply took such a big hit last month, we are requesting non-perishable food items and winter clothing to keep pace with the demand; once the more-serious winter weather finally hits Aurora, your personal donations will go a long way in ensuring a safe and healthy winter for Aurora’s adults and their families.  Just to remind our supporters, food bank operations are from 10:30-12:30 pm, Wednesdays and Fridays every week.

Holiday Party Update

We would like to provide another reminder to our readers: the annual CCN Holiday Party will be held on Saturday, December 22nd, at the Aurora First Presbyterian Church!  One week before the party, December 16th, we will be sorting toys and gifts at 1:30 pm in our office and could use extra hands to accelerate the process.  We are still accepting volunteers to help with the set-up and break-down of the actual party, with general assistance in gift wrapping and food facilitation throughout.  CCN is also short on volunteers for our After School Program.  Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-5:30 pm, extra bodies are needed to aid with reading, arts and crafts, games, recreation, and  of course, homework and school studies.  Please contact Mary Pritchard at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. THX

For hosting October’s Family Night, we would like to thank Rotary Club of Aurora Fitzsimons for providing delicious lasagna for us and the families that attended.  Americorp Volunteers were a terrific help during this month’s family night.

A final and tremendous thank you goes to newly married Ian and Megan Harper.  Out of the generosity of their hearts, instead of registering themselves for their wedding, they had their guests buy gifts for Colfax Community Network!  Provided by Target, the guests of the Harper wedding purchased over $5,000 worth of items, including winter clothing (hat, gloves, mittens, socks, coats), hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion), and, best of all, 50 school uniforms for our kids!  We can’t thank you both enough for your compassion in our gradually economizing environment; the CCN appreciates your contributions and wish you both health and happiness in your new life together.
